I work for an LTL company and I do extra board I wanted to take my igloo cooler charger outlet one that you plug into cigarette lighter outlet. because it barely fits in between both seats to carry some snacks and healthier options while I’m on the road. It doesn’t keep things very cool. 20-30 degrees below inside temp. Any other brands more reliable? Links would be appreciated? Also any heathy snack ideas or meals that don’t take a lot of utensils or plugs cause I don’t have a sleeper would be appreciated.

LTL:

Less Than Truckload

Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.

LTL carriers include:

  • FedEx Freight
  • Con-way
  • YRC Freight
  • UPS
  • Old Dominion
  • Estes
  • Yellow-Roadway
  • ABF Freight
  • R+L Carrier

Ahhhhhh, one of my favorite subjects.

Snacks that will keep and are really good for you:

Hard boiled eggs.

Pork rinds (those with less than 4 ingredients).

Nuts and seeds--sunflower seeds, cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts. Stay away from anything with peanuts.

Purple cabbage leaves to use for wraps. Stay away from any bread.

Wild caught, Pacific salmon.

Canned oysters packaged in either olive oil, or their own brine.

Sardines packaged in olive oil.

Avocados, beef jerky, and cod livers are also fantastic healthy foods.

All the above are zero carbs, too.

Love my Yeti roadie. I think you'd be well served with this bad boy. It's not too big. It is expensive. I've had mine for 3 years and I take it camping, fishing, racing and it does great. It'll stay cold for 2 or 3 days easy.

I agree to stay away from the carbs as much as possible. I like the Oikos yogurts with no sugar added, cheese sticks, and any of the nut butters with fresh apples.

Water, water, water. This will curb your appetite and freeze them at home and you've got packable ice packs that you can drink too. Plus it saves space in smaller coolers.

These are not a "nut" or a seed, but a tuber, are very high in carbs, nowhere near as high a fat content as the actual nuts I listed above, and are high in Omega 6 (Bad!). High fat content and low carbs is what we're after. Don't worry about calories or cholesterol! If you can't grow it, catch it, or kill it don't eat it.

Nuts and seeds.

Eggs.

Grass fed and grass finished fatty meats.

Wild caught seafood.

Limited vegetables and dairy.

Water, coffee, and tea.

Hey PackRat, I understand staying away from carbs but why limited veggies and no fruits? Aren’t they healthy space filling options?

Vegetables don't do much for the human body, and most fruits are mainly water (good), but high in sugar content (bad).

Those I will eat are celery, melons, cucumbers, some cooked onions, most types of beans, limited amounts of potatoes and heirloom tomatoes.

Wild grown herbs, roots, berries and seeds are a whole other matter. These I either harvest in the mountains, grow them, or buy from sources known to me.

Reason I ask is I’ve been in landscaping and construction work for the past 27 years, I have never really watched what I ate cause I consistently burned more calories and carbs then I could eat. Now that I am planning to go into trucking, I wont be getting all that exercise anymore and I am trying to adjust my diet so I dont gain a ton of weight. I’m 45yrs old and been 6’3” 220 my entire adult life, would like to stay close to that weight.
