Congrats

Looking at the GPS tracker I thought you were going to make it.

Just a final note on this adventure. By getting that load delivered a day early, I was able to pick up two loads on Sunday that netted me an extra 360 miles for the day. In addition one of the loads was short haul and an easy drop and hook which got me additional pay for the short haul. My last load relayed out of our terminal in Appleton. I was going to spend the night in the terminal but decided I had enough time left to keep moving the additional 80 miles to the consignee. Now I can start the day tomorrow with plenty of drive time remaining. I can even get a quick workout and shower at the Planet Fittness down the road. I still have a lot to learn about managing my clock to squeeze extra time out of it. But so far aggressiveness and hard work is making up for my lack of speed and efficiency.

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Wild Bill, that was excellent work! It's the kind of stuff that's really satisfying to do, and it helps you establish yourself as someone who "gets it." Well done!

Now, don't run yourself ragged. There's a sense of balance that must be achieved on the road. I'm all for being a top performer, but it's also important to know your limits. Not every week will go as smoothly. There's a lot of variables we deal with. You're really learning a lot right now. Stay on the edge of that learning curve and you'll be well on your way to being a Top Tier Driver.
