Hello Steve, congratulations on getting your new trucking career started!
You want to keep your eyes open for any places that you see trailers parked. I know my local Wal-Mart allows some of the drivers here in town to drop their trailer in a designated area of their parking lot. There are a variety of places where people park their trucks or trailers when on home time. The problem is finding a place that allows it. keep looking around and you'll see some trucks parked at places you might not expect. I've got a convenience store near my house that allows people to park in the back. Sometimes big box stores like Lowe's or Home Depot will allow you to park. I've seen a few Costco stores that allow parking. Truck stops will work, but I don't recommend dropping a trailer and bob-tailing home. Your trailer may not be there when you return.
Hi guys, I am new to truck driving. I just went through CDL school and in a week I will be getting my own truck. My question is. How does one find a decent place to park your trailer on home time? The company I work for requires in writing the "ok to park" from wherever I find. Do I just start calling different companies around me that can fit a 48'? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!
Just curious. . . if you are pulling a 48' .. flat, tank?
Trucker Path seems to help many.. as well. Then again, not all T/S's do 34's/rent a spot deals. Old School is super correct on that, being sketchy. We have a friend that parked at our home until they moved him to a 'Norte' hub, in Ohio. He literally parks at the Henry County Humane Society, and posts ads for adoption on his facebook and instagram pages. He gets pets adopted, and his trailer is TCO~!
Have you looked at 'storage' facilities? Car lots? (Cars are slim on selling atm, as I see..) Another pal of ours is thinking about renting about up to ten TT spots, this spring. Not much.. but his car business failing .. have to monetize somehow!
Wish you well...
