Michael S. If you get your DOT physical through a company, they pay the provider and there is no cost to you. If you go to an independent provider outside of the company, then you pay yourself. My last physical last year was with a certified independent. It cost me $85, but saved me from making a long round trip drive for the company physical. I had a horrible experience with Concentra, so I’m definitely not a fan. Personally, I prefer to see an independent as I don’t like to share any medical info with any company I am not required to share. Call me paranoid but that’s just my philosophy.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
