These are actual images of me driving a Mexican rental car from Mexico to Phoenix yesterday knowing damn well I don't wanna be the new guy "getting his CDL and gets a ticket" and having to do math to figure out my speed while AZ is crawling with troopers.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

As a "former" Canadian who grew up through the transition from the British system to the metric system, here are some general reference points for you:

30mph is approximately 50km/h 40mph is approximately 60km/h 50mph is almost exactly 80km/h 60mph is approximately 100km/h 70mph is approximately 110km/h

if you remember these, other speed limits can be interpolated.

Good Luck! smile.gif

That's basically what I did. Odd the picture didn't show. It was the meme with the confused woman and math symbols 🤣

Most speedometers show both mph and kmh.

I rented the car in Mexico. I can't say all vehicles manufactured for sale in Mexico don't have mph but I've never been in one with anything but km/h.

Every single truck I've driven since 2015 showed both. A non-issue.

Oh, no, it was a car. VW Jetta, not sure the year but as a rental probably 2020 or newer. I was making a joke about how someone mentioned a lot of new people get tickets just before or during training and I was driving slow and doing complex math in my head.

Obviously I had already calculated what 60, 65, 70, 75mph are but I was making an attempt at humor. The image not attaching properly likely didn't help the joke at all. I have a pic of the speedometer with kmh and Phoenix road signs if you really don't believe me 🤣

Yeah, I'd imagine that would be a rather unique reason for getting a ticket right before your career was about to start. It would show that the trucking gods have a very twisted sense of humor.

Probably be a fairly unique excuse for the cop too to try and get out of it

"Bruh, I am enrolled in CDL school, here's the receipt...I was guesstimating my speed, pls bro!" lmao
