Hello! And greetings to all. Today in Staten Island, New York I failed my cdl class b school bus road test. I aced and breezed through part 1) pre trip inspection but I did poorly on part 2) basic controls and the test was cut short. I feel confident driving on the road and my only real issues , believe it or not are straight backing, and offset parking. I spent a lot already between dmv fees, road test fees, paying for the school bus and training in the school bus I used to take the test in today. I rescheduled to take another cdl road test next Friday September 16th. Because of my financial situation, I cannot really afford to pay another $400 to use the school bus of the driving school I went to train with , and I was thinking of using one of my friends school bus ( he owns a school bus company ) instead for free. Can I go to the road test site next week and take the road test with my friends bus, permitted that he accompanies me and has the proper license on him to take me there ? Or do I have to rebook with the driving school and use there bus and instructor. Also , assuming I am allowed to go with my friend and use his school bus, will it make a difference in quality, status, or value of the license to the DMV, as in is it more disadvantageous to do it through my friend as opposed to just going with my driving school and instructor resulting in a more advantageous outcome? Or does it not matter? I’m sorry for this parable but with all this ELDT stuff I’m not understanding anything anymore and everyone is giving me all different kinds of answers. I don’t know if my school is trying to guilt me and hustle me into thinking they are the only way going forward to get more money out of me or if it’s true and I have to only go through them. Please let me know what you think at your earliest convenience. Thank you and have a pleasant evening from Staten Island, New York.
You should be contacting the DMV with that question to ask them. They are not going to lie to you. Or, contact the school if you are not able to get ahold of anyone at the DMV.

Alessandro;
First, welcome to TT! Not sure we're the folks to ask, however .. just like Ryan said. Our mission is to help folks find the right pathways into obtaining their CDLA's, often through company paid training. I'd most definitely check with your local DMV.
Also, where you state you didn't do well on #2/Basic controls, yet you drive well on the roadways; that's conflicting, of sorts. I'm not sure our HRTP would be of any help, but: High Road CDL Training Program!
In closing, I'd not see any issues they should have with you taking your friend's bus (with him driving, up to the test site, of course...) as long as he is totally legal. The "school's" bus (where you attended) should be quite similar, correct? Besides, the instructors where you attended would be prohibited from assisting you in any way, during test time. Unless THEY (your school) is in fact a 3rd party tester (think the FMCSA has done away with that, too much cheating) I don't see it would matter.
DISCLAIMER: This is only my opinion; New York has some things they may do differently than other states, such as the extra Coil Laws for CDLA; but I don't know how much variance would be notable re: the CDLB.
Best wishes;
~ Anne ~
