Hey all,

I know it’s the insurance companies not the truck companies that hire you but how do they feel about a 1 year employment gap? (my mom was sick).

I’m a student no exp and already have my CDL. Looking to start soon.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Insurance has nothing to do with work history. This is a gov’t requirement. All you need is letters usually 3 from people that knew what you were doing, so tgey know you were not off doing bad things. Recruiters deal with the issue all the time. Not a big deal.

Sorry to hear your mom was sick.

Yep, a couple/few letters will do, I worked off and on, for 15 years for cash, so no real traceable income. With a couple jobs in between, I got 1 boss/personal friend typed a ref. letter, on the companies letter head. Another note from my best bud of 55 years, which I didn't really even need them, afterall. Every company is different, better to have them than not to. So 1 year, really ain't much of a gap........
