Very much this. At my Dad's house, I can park, as long as I don't run the APU. So, I run an extension cord to my fridge and shut the rest of the truck off.
If I go "home" our local small town WalMart allows us to park BT there for a few days at a time. Many of us pick up trash in the truck area, just to make sure we are still allowed to come in. Luckily there isn't too much, and haven't run across pee bottles there (yet.)
I could park in "my" driveway there, if the power line above the driveway was for SURE 14 feet. It's not a risk I'm going to take 🤣
If I go to my friends houses, most live out in the country, with very few neighbors, so they don't have an issue with me parking there!
Where do you live?
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.
