OK, at the risk of jinxing myself again, I hereby announce that I am officially headed for Springfield, MO and Prime orientation this Sunday to begin the long awaited process on Monday, the 21st. I was supposed to go there two weeks ago but - for some strange reason I haven't figured out yet - I slipped on a completely DRY step while exiting the back of our church truck (parked on completely level ground) and landed on my completely functional elbow on perfectly good asphalt rendering my here-to-fore completely good elbow perfectly useless. And it hurt like hell, too!. So after cash-out-of-pocket at the ER, cash-out of pocket (twice) at the doc's office and hours of pain and suffering, I got my "release to return to work" paperwork in hand (which is ironic since I haven't started to work yet - haven't even started the SCHOOL part yet) and my plane ticket online to report to Springfield, MO this Sunday to start the long slog to CDL Nirvana, otherwise referred to as a Truck Drivin' job (cause I'm a [wannabe] Truck Drivin' Man!!) Or something like that. Like I told my friends at church when I announced my departure (that's the FIRST announcement, mind you, not the second or third) it's no sin to lie and tell me you'll miss me - i'ts considered charity in my case. SO all accolades and warm wishes and congratulations are and will be warmly accepted and appreciated. Remember, charity starts at home and what is TT if not home for the wayward wannabe truck divin' folk??

OK, you can begin . . .

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

The poor Prime instructors at Prime will be pulling their hair out since they were drivers once.
