Hi I am trying to get into trucking and need to go to school to get my class a license. I heard that there is some schools that pay you to get your cdl class a. is this true, if so how does it work and which schools?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CDL schools are a business and make a profit from the students who go there. However, a number of trucking companies have their own training programs and if they approve you, they will pay you, plus other benefits. They usually will pay for your transportation to their location, house you, feed you. Then, if you successfully complete their training, you have a job with them.
