What got you into trucking? What keeps you going?
I'm not very smart, but I can make over 100k a year so that's why I'm in trucking and why I stay.
What’s the hardest part people don’t understand
The way other people drive, completely reckless, clueless, selfish or inconsiderate.
What got you into trucking?
I was a 17 yr postal worker. Bombs, anthrax, workplace shooters. No life. 70hr work weeks and missed every holiday. Trucking seemed like freedom
What keeps you going?
Money. Freedom.
What’s the hardest part people don’t understand?
Reality of trucking. If we get off at 5pm, we are back at work at 3am. We need to shower, do laundry, eat, sleep, and more during that time. We get up at midnight in blizzards to trek across a football field truck stop, get woken by the bright lights just to use a restroom. A restroom that is often smelly and dirty... only to trek back out into the winds and snow to get back to sleep. Good luck.
I could never work a normal day job again.
People do not realize we cannot park just anywhere. We need to shut down by law and people waste our times at customers, fuel pumps and RVs take our end of day parking spots.
What’s something you’re proud of that nobody sees?
Every day is a day i could kill someone, kill myself, or go to prison. Every day that i park safely is a great day!
Feminists also told me that i would be struggling out here and would be disrespected. They lied... or were misguided. Take your pick. As a safe driver who has contributed much to the industry, i have excelled and gained the respect of many. despite their ill advice.
I have a Youtube channel. There is a playlist "the realities of trucking" check it out. Here is my latest video. Check out the almost 400 comments of drivers discussing the state of the industry.

Hey drivers,
I'm working on a project that highlights the real, unfiltered stories of truckers—the grit, the pride, the sacrifices, and the moments that make it all worth it. Whether you’ve been behind the wheel for 30 years or just got your CDL last month, I want to hear from you.

I’m here to listen and represent your story with the respect it deserves. Drop a comment or shoot me a message if you'd rather talk 1-on-1.
Thanks for keeping the country moving.
Best, Matt
