What's The Matter With These People?

My past week has been nothing but training my wife for our home business, studying for most of the late morning / afternoon, leaving for school by 4:00pm to beat traffic, and class from 5-10pm. Awake at home for just about an hour before crashing. Rinse and repeat.

To break up the monotony of studying, I frequent the forum(s) during my study breaks. Let me say that I'm done with the Trucker's Report.

They act like toddlers throwing tantrums, are sharp-tongued, very confrontational, extremely suspicious and paranoid, in league against anything that remotely represents authority or a trucking company, and in general just very, very grumpy. I've seen some members there that will reach out to rookie drivers and are pleasant, but they are few and far between. Even most if not all staff is highly confrontational and dramatic.

I'll end on a positive note. I'm EXTREMELY thankful for culture on this forum, and I know this has everything to do with responsible moderation of the forum. Thank you for that.

I second that. This has been nothing except a positive experience and I count is a huge blessing to have "met" you all.

I am fortunate that my only point of focus will be training and driving and I have endured some of the most rigorous training programs. And I approach things with the "How do you eat an elephant? One bit at a time!" mentality. Rest well and get up and dig in for another day.

Keep up the hard work Bill. I have collected everything I need to take and will be packing my duffle bag tonight. Tomorrow begins my journey.

I couldn't agree with you more! Both of you! smile.gif

I wish you both, and anyone else that's taking the next step in their journey to becoming a professional driver, much success!!!!

I won't be joining you until Oct/Nov of this year, but I look forward to following your adventures.

Keep up the good work! And keep the rubber on the road!

It depends on which sections you are looking at over there. The Roehl company thread has some really good people in there. So, don't let the bad apples spoil the bunch. Just take it with a grain of salt.

rofl-3.gif That's how I've always felt about it. I don't believe I've ever completed reading even one conversation over there and I haven't even bothered trying in a few years. The handful of decent people you may come across aren't worth finding when you realize that after 5 minutes your stomach is in knots from all of the negativity, confrontation, and B.S.

This was the first forum I found, and then my searching stopped. There is plenty on here and the people are great. Life comes with enough built in stress and problems that we don't need to put ourselves in places where others create more every time they open their mouths.

It's actually a health issue on top of the mental aspect of putting up with it. Negativity releases chemicals into our bodies, the kind that pushes people into depression. Not a good way to function, increasing stress and driving away happiness. On the other hand, when we enjoy something and laugh, that too releases chemicals into our bodies, the kind that brings joy into our lives. It is a scientific fact that this kind of person will get sick less often and heal quicker from sickness and disease. Whether it's what we hear, see, or talk about, it does affect us.

Laughter is the best medicine. Take it daily and stay away from those who don't!!!

Very well spoken. I'd never reduce a human being to just being a sum of parts, but we are indeed chemical factories. In fact, slightly of topic, but here's an anecdote about the chemical factory analogy and anxiety.

A friend of mine, who is a practicing psychologist, explained that he counsels his patients that struggle with anxiety or panic attacks to basically just let their bodies process and burn through the chemicals. Certain chemicals are released during anxiety attacks. The most natural thing is to fight it - i.e. get anxious about being anxious. It's like throwing gasoline on a lit cigarette. Some folks in this predicament wind up visiting the ER for fear of having a heart attack. He said nobody ever dies from anxiety attacks, and that if the person suffering anxiety, understands that it's a process they just have to let their bodies go through, it eventually will subside. Each time a panic attack happens, and this method is practiced, the during of the attack will diminish more and more. Pretty cool. Let your body expend the chemicals associated with anxiety, and the anxiety will subside.
