Every summer I grow Mint in my truck. I've made this type of thread before, but we have a whole different group here now. So I'll make it again.

Just because you're a trucker doesn't mean you can't enjoy growing plants. I used to grow flowers for my wife, I would buy the seeds and small plants when I just started my month on the road and at 4 weeks later I would come home to give her flowers that I grew myself. The one thing I'm all about is I don't let the fact that I'm a trucker stop me from enjoy some of the things "normal" people get to enjoy - like growing plants!

I grow mint now. Growing it this summer, grew it last as well.

Mint definitely makes the air more fresh. When I go to the front I can smell them! They are very easy to maintain. I pick off leaves each morning and put the leaves in my tea. And for a variety, mint comes in different "flavors"....spearmint, peppermint, chocolate mint, orange mint. And I"m sure I've missed a few. They all grow easily, and taste great in tea, hot chocolate, or Chai. Mint is good for you! Its a natural aromatic for sinus and allergy relief, and when put in hot beverages, it soothes the stomach...Whats not to like about mint!

So to all the new folks, here's another idea from yours truly that I guarantee you've never thought of. Put it in a pot with the drain attached to it on the bottom and you won't ever have to deal with spills. 8x3o_zpse1906533.jpg

Daniel, you can probably grow a couple of chickens in the sidebox! rofl-3.gif

Not a bad idea to have a rolling herb garden to spice things up a bit.

Just don't grow Rose Mary. It's great in small doses but plays hell with the senses if to much is in one area.

Well that is good to know, because it is the one herb I was thinking I would want to grow! Why is that?

Have you ever crushed Rose Mary in your hand and then took a good deep sniff? If not give it a try. It's super strong smell and them imagine it in a not so well ventilated 8x10 foot box. Not my idea of something that I would want to smell. Now the mint..... I love it. I used to have an 1/4 acre of it in my back yard when I used to have a house there. Made everything smell minty and I was OK with that.

Here is a couple other suggestions. Cactus and Aloe plants.

Cactus and aloe absorb CO-2 and release oxygen at night. Might help you sleep better.

Also the aloe plant leaves will get spots when the air becomes too toxic with CO-2 and carbon monoxide. Also all the healing uses of aloe are a plus.

What a great idea! I am totally stealing all of your ideas, Daniel. Now you'll have to make a bike installment video, a trucker gardening video, and perhaps a trucker cooking guide after that. Maybe I'll buy you some decent bike tires in exchange. ;-)
