Will a company allow the husband and wife drive together (both have their CDLs and are hired on by the same company)? If they do, do they pay both the husband for his miles driven and the wife for her miles driven? Or is it one pay for the both together? If this makes any sense. Thanks :)

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Yes, most companies LOVE husband and wife teams....And the pay can be set up either way....one check for all miles, or a check for husbands miles, and a check for wife's miles...Don't know why you'd split 'em unless it could be a tax incentive... But I digress... WELCOME to TT !! And thats one cute kiddlin' !!!! Feel free to ask any questions you have, we'll be glad to asnwer any and all.

Yes, most companies like starcar said welcome husband and wife teams.

Little word of advice. Make sure you know what you are getting into teaming with your spouse.

Jakecatt..you almost ruined my little "teaming with your spouse" report...rofl-3.gif . I think if you can get into the old forum, you can look it up, by doing a search on my name....And every word is true...TSB and I teamed for a long time....And I'll say it again....If a relationship can withstand driving team in a semi...it will withstand ANYTHING....

LOL

All I know is that I have been driving almost 2 years. About a month ago my wife had some time off so I took her out with me for 2 days.

When we got back I kicked her out and told her never again!

Ahh jakecatt....you didn't even get to the fun part yet !!! I tossed TSB from the sleeper bed to being curled around the gear shift...He was kinda upset....but theres lots more memories from our years of driving team.....But I think my VERY BEST one was one night, when we were running over Montana...and he was giving me this lecture on pulling into mud puddles...(I love driving as fast as I can thru mud puddles...the deeper the better) well he was driving, and he pulled into Little Big Horn Truck Stop on hwy 212 and I 90, exit 210.( Its not there anymore). Well it was about midnight, and he pulled around back, still talkin' about stayin clear of mud puddles...and he aimed right for this HUGE mud puddle....and it was DEEP...to deep...we got stuck...he had to get out and it filled his cowboy boots with muddy water....We sat there til morning, and he had to get out AGAIN, to call a wrecker. Cost us $650.00( of course it HAD to be on a Saturday) to be pulled out....He has never lived it down, and I won't EVER let him forget it...infact I just reminded him of it now !!!!!

Your welcome. I know one of the ladies was asking about it. They wanted to read about school and first days otr.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
