Hello ladies!!!

Well basically I need to keep my night job in order to pay bills and finish the process of buying a house but at the same time I need to get the heck out of working with co-workers but still need to maintain a lifestyle :-)

Are there any part time classes? Can I realistically make it work?

Good morning! Welcome!smile.gif I am just into this process myself Dawn. There are choices, days, evenings, and just weekend classes. I will say you must, must explore this site!! Super training, lots of info, many supportive people. CDL school diaries, many resources that will give you a great head start! So take a look around. Of course you can make it work.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Hi Mikki,

Thanks for the encouragement, I did look at the CDL comparative and so far in my area it look like it Prime but it doesnt say if they have part time hours or part time classes. So, when I get home I'll give them a call to get more information. I hope they not the only one that is close by me. Otherwise, I'll have to come up with another plan on making this work

I am in a county run vocational school and they have night classes as well as day classes. Some schools let you come to class when you can. You just pay for that block of time. Check it out, and also check to see if you qualify for grants like being prior military etc...Cole.

Hi Dawn, I don't know about the area you live in, but in SW Ohio there are several schools that offer weekend or evening classes. Obviously it takes longer but a girl has to do what a girl has to do. On another note, if you are in the process of buying a home please do not change your employment situation or let your loan officer know you are considering it as it could wreck your financing. I am currently a mortgage loan officer and if I was privy to that information I would be ethically be obligated to disclose it to my underwriter. I would hate to see anything happen to you purchasing a home! Good luck!

So, I'm a bit bum out. Went to see Allstate Career and they said until I pay down my student loans, I can only get 5200 toward the tuition which mean paying 714 a month for six months.

The only other option I can think of is sign up with a company and leave my job completely and forget buying a house at the moment.........blah! If only I had decided to do this when I was laid off!!!

Update:

I went to another company call Solomon and Smith Trucking company, it a minimum deposit of $1,000 and you can either pay as you go or monthly payment via in house finance which come up about $117 a month and it extended up to 18 months. The lady in the office also said sometime companies offer to pay off the balance or the whole tuition.

So, my faith is back and I'll be working on a game plan to come up with $1,000 fast. Since I cant buy the house for another six months, this will help me save more toward the classes.

But then again do Credit Unions let you borrow money for truck driving classes?

I'm not sure about the credit union thing....but I've had yard sales that brought in well over $1000.00 !!! And since you aren't gonna buy that house for awhile..... Explore your options....make educated choices.....and go live that dream !!! We'll help where we can !!
