I have read things on here about a pre hire letter. I understand the concept i think but i have no idea how you would write one.or what you would put in it? has anyone done anything like this that could give me some pointers? thanks
Matt go to the top of the page, search prehire letters it's all right there.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Matt, I think you misunderstand the pre-hire letter. You will apply to several companies (you should) and the ones interested will send you a pre-hire letter. It is a way of saying we will hire you if you pass our physical and survive our training process then pass our road test or whatever else is required.

If you attend a private school, they will encourage you to fill out every application available to whatever companies they farm out to. Do that and fill out the one in all at this site.
If you attend a company training school, you will not have to pay tuition, but, you will have to drive for that company for a set time (usually 9 months to a year).
Continue your research and if you really want to be a trucker, pick one.

Understanding Pre-Hires is your link, here.
Get as many pre-hire letters as you can, 5-10 or more. Fill out a company's application online. Answer, "no" you don't have your CDL yet. In the "comments" section, if they have one, say something like, "I'm planning on going to CDL school and would like a phone interview in lieu of a pre-hire letter." In a couple of days they (the good companies) will call you for a phone interview. It'll take about 15 minutes or so. Tell them you would like them to send you or email you a pre-hire letter. They're usually happy to do this. They send you the letter and then when you're finished with school, getting on to your favorite company's orientation session is a snap. It's not a guarantee of employment but it makes your post-school job hunt a whole lot easier. You will be amazed at how far a little effort now helps out later. Also, use that High Road Training Program and push through it, as far as you can, before school.
