I am getting ready to head to school and not once has driving record come up but seems just about every article, forum or Trucking magazine I have read says it is required to obtain a 10 year report. Does that mean the company has already ran mine? Do I need to jam down to the DMV before I take off? any help in this matter would help? All I know is that I filled out the application and about a week later was approved to the training and providing I get my CDL and pass their employment test (90 degree backing) I will be hired. They have not mentioned anything.. Not that I have anything to worry about record wize but would like to know if this is something I will need to get before I leave? Last ticket I had was 2003 and according to the website of this company they go back 3 years. So maybe this means I am good? Just do not want any set backs.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

I do not have to bring mine with me to Prime this weekend (starting orientation on May 7th so I am flying up this Sunday). Of course, your mileage may vary with you heading to a different company so it may be best to call up your recruiter or shoot them an email and get it from the horses mouth. Or perhaps send a private message asking one of the others (her name fails me at this moment) who has already headed to Celadon (I think that's where you're going right? LOL) Anyways, good luck to a fellow South Cackalackian hehehe, I wish you well and much success in your new venture!

The ten years is for your work record/jobs held in the last ten years. Not driving record.

But its always a good idea to know what is on your DMV report

Like I said just wanted to know that I have all the documents gathered that I need and they keep saying no on driving record. She says that I am approved that must mean nothing came up which shouldn't. I have talked to Pebbles. I am getting excited! any last minute advice? I leave next Saturday.

Actually, it doesn't. They don't do the "real" background checks until you actually arrive. Right now they're simply going by what you've told them on the application. Once you arrive they'll go through and verify your background in detail to see if it checks out - employment, driving, criminal, etc.

So get a copy of your driving record and make sure you've disclosed everything accurately. Also, keep working at the High Road Training Program. You're making great progress but don't stop now. Get through all of it you can.

Well it actually depends on the company. Some check before, because they don't want to pay for a bus ticket only to turn around and send you back, while others wait and do it when you arrive at orientation. There really is no standard on how or when background checks are done. The only "standard" is that almost every company in the industry does a background check.

If you have any doubts, ASK YOUR RECRUITER QUESTIONS before you report to orientation.
