Yeah, you're right Daniel, the part I was trying to hide though was that the trips to school were all uphill, both ways in the snow, all year long!

With milk bags on our shoes!!! (now that's old!)

It runs in my family. My grandaddy told us (often) that he drove 8 team in Oregon in the winter. (I'm not talking about football). That's just two generations ago.

I think I'll just stay with the yellow dinosaurs. I hear next year they'll have APU's and automatic transmissions.

For those of us old farts who get up at 4am, its almost bedtime in Saudi Arabia.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Hey I retired from retail at the age of 64 and after 6 months decided to go driving. I have been driving for Schneider now for 6 months. Old guys do well. We have the patience and persistence to hang in during the bad times and know how to savor the good times. Good luck.
