Hi everyone, I just finished my 34hrs reset, and in a shipper's yard ATM, but they won't start loading until 9PM local, so may I do the split SB now? Does it work?

Before my ON DUTY this morning, I have more than 8 consecutive hrs in SB, and I'm now attempting to get my 2hrs rest, hopefully can get the rest of my drive time to go. Anyone tried this tricky skill before? Pls shed me some lights, many thanks!

Hello.

The 34 hour restart (actually lack of) will only effect a split sleeper if you are at the end of your 70. You will only get back what is available up to the 70 hr mark. So, if you just had a restart, you are good.

Now, if you did over 8 hrs (less than 10) before going (back) on duty, you will have regained what you did not use in the previous shift. What ever time you took to get to the shipper will be removed and you will have the balance minus that time left until you take a 10 hr. If you took a total of 10 in the sleeper and/or off duty, you have a fresh 11 and 14.

Thank you for ur reply, RT. Allow me to explain more details.

Yes, I just finished my 34 this morning, my 70 is full. After on duty until my stopping at shipper, I had 6.5hrs driving, and about 10hrs of 14 used. But due to the loading time of shipper, I have to stay a little linger instead of waiting for like half an hour and take off again. In this case, since I have no "previous shift time" available(due to fresh 70), is my 2hrs break bring back the 3.5hrs DRV, and 4hrs of 14? Thanks!

Here's what you need to do.

Stay on SB for 8 consecutive hours. You'll get back exactly 4.5 hours back of driving time.

Use that 4.5 hours of driving and then go Off-Duty for 2 consecutive hours and you'll get back 6.5 hours of driving time.

Daniel, you're right. 2 hrs is due, but no hour gained, hv to sleep for 8 hrs straight. But unable for this load, I think I'll hv to drive at least one hr tonite. It's a tight load back to Riverside, CA, so I can't make any mistake, or I'll screwed.

You're not getting any hours back because you didn't do a full 8 hours of SB.

It has to be a full consecutive 8 hours or else that 2 hours won't factor in.

Next time you need urgent help with trip planning or log books give me a shout!

So the hrs In SB during my 34 doesn't count anyway. Key point. Thanks for the help, Daniel! I did the math again, looks like I can use the SSB once, then go back to 10hrs break with 10.5 DRV, I CAN STILL MAKE THE APPOINTMENT!
