Went and got my CDL permit a few days ago.. just a couple weeks away from heading to Knight for CDL training. Yesterday while driving it started pouring down rain in rush hour traffic and everyone in front of me started slamming on their brakes. My wheels locked up and I slid into the back of someone. Got a ticket for ACDA. Now I have to wait another six months. First traffic violation in 16 years of driving..

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Knight told you that? (I got my only moving violation since the '80's - +15mph - last July and Knight said I had to wait a year)

Yes, this was according to Hannah from the Indy location.. maybe she was mistaken? Either way, I will probably go ahead and wait almost a year anyway as I don't want to head to training in the middle of winter. Just sucks though..

Of your heart's set on Knight, well more power to you. I switched to Swift who picked me up right away.

Then I did school through December and January in Memphis.

I figured the policy would be the same for other companies? I may look into others then.. Swift, Prime, and Roehl were also on top of my list. I just liked the idea of auto transmissions and getting paid right away as I am going into this with very little money.. I imagine if I get through the first few months I should easily get my first year in.. and then take it from there.

Hannah is a sweetheart, she's my recruiter as well. Sorry to hear about the bad luck but at least you're ok. The fleet won't be fully automatic until the end of the next year and out here, we will only see the Volvo and International trucks, unless they release some of the Freightshakers and the Kenworth test units are still in the testing phase.
