Wow. That is just unbelieveable. This why its not worth having phone out while driving doesn't even matter if its just a mile down the road.

on side note. When did corvettes have a backseat? (<<--sarcastic remark)

I was going to say that but thought better of doing so. In my personal opinion if you are caught texting while driving you should get the same treatment as a drunk driver, maybe less people would consider doing this foolish thing. There is no text, call, or picture (yes there have been deaths in cars caused by selfies) worth your life or anyone else's.

I've had one of those. Great cars, light and strong. That one looks a whole lot lighter now though.

As light as they are, and as fast as they can stop, tells me that the guy was not just texting, but completely oblivious of his surroundings. AND he went through the ICC bar.

Here on I-16 near Savannah we've already had 3 major accidents in the last month. It wasn't until I started driving a rig recently when I got a better idea of how stupid some drivers can be around trucks or in general. Just. Friggin. Amazing.

Kind of disappointing. Corvette owners are *usually* fairly responsible. Goes to show it only takes a brief stupid choice to have permanent ramifications.

I saw a stat on television the other day that said an estimated 26% of wrecks involve a cell phone in some way. I totally believe that. When you see how many people are talking and texting all the time it's easy to believe that number.

Makes me feel old to say but , I wish I had a nickel for every time I saw that. I'd be rich. Literally be a huge bonus every day.

I would be willing to bet that if our lawmakers (who seem to make half the " laws" just so the sheeple think they are doing a little something besides raising money for their next campaign) saw this as much as us, the penalties for DWD ( driving while distracted) would be much harsher.

I would go so far as to call it an epidemic.

I would agree. I think the situation is pretty dire and I don't think anyone knows how to solve it. Simple and obvious solutions like preventing texting while the car is in motion are simply not practical.

And you know, it doesn't really get mentioned often but how many wrecks are caused by people studying their GPS while going down the road? A ton of em. You have people watching movies, flipping through their music playlists, and making video calls. I have no idea what they're going to do about any of it but I know a lot of people are getting killed and torn to pieces every day because of distracted driving.

Between our obesity epidemic and distracted driving we seem to be on the verge of implementing our own gruesome version of population control.
