Okay so I'm not a tech junkie by any stretch of the imagination but I have a bad compulsiveness about clutter on the dash. I wanted a reliable GPS and dashcam but didn't want to waste all that space on the dash with gadgets, the fact it was a tablet as well didn't interest me and thought oh well it's there if I need it. Let me be the first on this sight to say I really love this dang thing. First the magnetic mount is fantastic, easy to take on and off the window for security and cleaning the windows. The GPS is like the other Rand Mcnally's so there is no learning curve. Great video from the dash cam and simple to operate. Super easy to download video and has a USB port to keep your your driving history on something other than the unit. I didn't think I would use the tablet end of it, but found it really convenient while waiting at a shipper or receiver. The biggest drawback in my opinion is the size. A little larger than I would like overall it's great.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

I've read great things about them, you're the first I've "known" who gave a review. I was interested in it too since it does so much for an all in one unit.

One thing I forgot to mention is it also reroute's me when trouble is ahead. Found out the hard way. When I did my initial preplan it said to go one way then when I got to that point it told me to go another. Went the original route 2 times and both times I was stuck behind very bad accidents (should have listened to the gps)

Out of curiosity, do the Rand Mcnally GPS units incorporate real time traffic reports the way Google Maps does? Sure is awesome to look at a screen and see green, yellow, or red highways based upon the speed that traffic is moving.

I believe the real time traffic on the rand McNallys are subscription based.

That's correct I decided to try the real time traffic option and so far am very pleased with its performance. Of course just like any other gps you need to use your best judgement and cross reference. It has been fairly accurate though.

I'm pretty certain they're getting that traffic data from Google, who gets it from monitoring the GPS signal in Android phones to see how fast traffic is moving.

So the real time traffic update is a subscription plan?

I hate that. I don't know if they have to pay google to obtain this info.. (I like Brett assume they get it from them). But I just hate how they would charge you for it. This is me personally.. A business is allowed to do what they want. So ill just have to deal with it.

If that's where they're getting it then you can be certain they're paying quite a bit for it. No doubt. Corporations aren't going to give other corporations free stuff as a favor so they can turn around and make a nice profit on it. Heck with that. Google invested big money to build the systems that collect that data so Garmin or anyone big who would want to use it would have to pay up for it.
