I do know that Prime will have you go out with a trainer (depends on the situation as to how long I am thinking). During that time you are getting paid a guaranteed $700/week. No money out of your pocket for training. Just something to think about.

LOL E logs were just becoming popular when I last drove. I think Werner was the only company that used them in all their trucks. As far as the refresher goes I have no issue with doing it but my wallet does. Most of the companies require something like 60 hours. The school out here is charging $700 or $800 for the refresher.

I haven't driven since getting my CDL last October. Dont know if the following companies do flat-bed, but I talked to them (US-Xpress, Werner), and was told I didn't need a refresher. Prime told me that I either had to go for a refresher OR sign a contract to work with them for a year.

CDL:

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.

I got a conditional offer from Schneider yesterday. The job is for their intermodal division. My work schedule will be from Tues-sat. I will be home Saturday evening and leave 6am on Tuesdays. I will be getting .34 per mile with an average of 2200-2500 miles per week. I also get $30 per container and a $5000 sign on bonus. All of this was put in writing. Now a friend of mine works at the location I will be running at and he says he never makes less than $1100 per week. My friend also told me he ALWAYS has the opportunity to work an extra day. They have been offering $100 plus your per mile and container pay. So the money is there. This is a Northeast Region job that covers CT,RI,MA,NH,ME, and VT. No routes through Boston.

I pointed out to the recruiter that I haven't drove for 7 years and the recruiter said that's ok. So they are flying me out to Chicago for 3 weeks. 1 week Orientation, 1 week out with a driver trainer, and 1 week of intermodal training. I leave on the 23rd and all I can say is thank god they are flying me out there rather than the dreadful greyhound. Did that once and never again lol.

Intermodal:

Transporting freight using two or more transportation modes. An example would be freight that is moved by truck from the shipper's dock to the rail yard, then placed on a train to the next rail yard, and finally returned to a truck for delivery to the receiving customer.

In trucking when you hear someone refer to an intermodal job they're normally talking about hauling shipping containers to and from the shipyards and railyards.

If you live near an Amazon Fulfillment Center, they require no experience for yard driver positions. Must have cdl-A, clean mvr , and at least 25 years old.

The pay isn't that great, but their benefits are awesome and it's a 40 hr/week, home every night or day. . 4 days a week job.

Oh wow, that's a good deal.. my former coworkers who got their cdl went to Schneider and love it from what I hear. Our school seems to push Schneider and TMC.

Best of luck to you!
