I love that small stretch of I-15 through Arizona. It really is neat out on that side of the country

Yeah, I forgot about that bit.
I've been to California once before from Texas. This load was from Illinois though. I believe I-70 and I-15 through Colorado and Utah, then the stretch of I-15 through Nevada so far (I'm stopped 2 miles from the NV/CA border) is by far, hands down the most beautiful stretch of the country I've ever laid my eyes upon. That being said, after seeing all the chain up zones and barricades they have in place to close the interstates through these areas, I have ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE to see them in the winter. Lol.
at least that area allows chains
When I lived in Columbus, OH you were not allowed to use chains or studded tires. Had to rely on the county to get the roads plowed and salted. They put to much salt down though and it starts to do damage to your undercarriage. my mom had a dodge ram truck she owned in ohio for 2 years and one day driving in TX (about a year after we left ohio) she accidentally hit a light pole in a parking lot and it literally snapped the tire from the axel (the whole assembly the wheel attaches to was ripped off from the rest of the axle). according to several mechanic friends she had they said that should never have happened seeing as the axle is one of the strongest parks of the car (you ever try to pick one up... those things are probably about 1/4 - 1/3 of the vehicles weight each). They said it was probably do to the amount of salt used up there caused it to rust and get corroded and what not, it was a clean snap too not like bent or something.
Needless to say they would not need to use so much salt in ohio if they allowed chains and studded tires. In all honest salt doesn't work all that well anyways... it melts the ice but not very quickly and it can still re freeze and usually does in the night when there's a lot of it.
gosh i hated ohio winters.

I love that drive! I went from Vegas to Denver on I15/I70 a couple years ago. East of Denver I got off the interstate and took a state road all the way across Nebraska and then into Des Moines. I was amazed at the difference a couple hundred miles could make when it came to scenery, and I that's when I first got this bug to drive.
Utah is absolutely gorgeous--I can't believe I'd lived just down the road for so many years and had no idea. Never done it in the winter though, but I imagine I will eventually. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm also NOT looking forward to it, if that makes sense :)
