Lucky you. I was supposed to be going to prime for school that day as well but it got passed back for some various reasons to next month. Mabey You got the spot I opened up. O and by the way I have taken that same bus trip across the Midwest you are describing. Beautiful.

By the off chance you end up in Dallas be alert. Pickpockets ,thieves, scammers. It's best not to leave the station. But if you do you'll have a good story probably.

I was scheduled for this date in the second week of August. The trip has been pretty. One of the nicest sunsets I've seen was tonight in Arizona.

I'm having serious leg room problems though. If you have long legs and are going on a long trip like this, make sure you are near the front of the line and pick an aisle seat.

Made it to Albuquerque New Mexico. I want to stress the importance of getting off the bus at your stops and walking around. Sitting in cramped space for hours is not going to be good and you should take leg stretching opportunities when you get them.

We stopped in Gallup New Mexico and it was kind of interesting. We stopped at a U Save truck stop. Right across the street were Love's and TA. Later down the road were 4 hotel chains built right next to each other. Talk about rough competition.

Get use to being stuck in the sitting position lol.. I drove 7 hours straight without stopping one time cuz the time frame was tight.. Only had 7 minutes to spare when we arrived at the consignee

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

It's the same at any Greyhound station I've ever been to. They're normally in one of the worst sections of the city and the stations are always filled with sketchy, terrifying people.

The sitting isn't the problem, it's the fact that I have zero leg room. My knees are pressed into the back of the seat and have been for almost a day now. I asked them to please adjust the seats since the wheelchair got off a while ago. I've been half sitting in the aisle. Horrid.

As far as pickpockets, pick a city and you're going to see one. We had a girl's phone stolen on a bus from her seat and no one got off the bus so the thief just stayed on the bus and they never found it.

Keep your belongings close is what I'm getting at.

I still haven't met anyone going to training too. I figure I'll probably see some in Oklahoma which is my next destination. Texas sunrises are pretty. The only upside to the desert.

Does Prime offer any alternatives to the "Dirty Dog" such as a plane ticket or a rental car to get to orientation?

The last (and only) time I traveled Greyhound was the most miserable travel experience ever and that includes the time my car died at 3:00 in the morning in the country with no houses or lights for miles, I ended up walking about 3 miles homes, very dark and scary.

The Greyhound bus driver thought I was taking too long to tear my ticket out of it's pocket & hand it to her and I guess she was having a bad day and decided to not let me ride in 'her bus'. Horrible woman! Had to wait another 8 hrs for the next bus. To top it all off my luggage mysteriously disappeared, I'm still trying to get some sort of resolution. I've written, emailed and called this horrible company with no resolution. No response from emails, not even an acknowledgement that they were received.

I swore I would never use them again but I'm going to Prime next week and after checking trains and rental cars (no train from Chicago to Springfield, MO and rental car will cost about $200) it seems I have no other choice but drive my car which means I need a place to park my car at Prime while out on OTR training. Does anyone know if there's somewhere at Prime I can leave my car for 5-6 weeks while out training? Is this even possible?

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

SAP:

Substance Abuse Professional

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

(I went to Swift's school, but ...) keep your gas receipts, the school/Prime may reimburse you, since they did not need to buy a bus ticket.

Terminals have a place for drivers' cars while they travel. And you know they are out for weeks at a time. They can make arrangements. While you are at school, and living, I suppose, in a hotel, keep your car handy. You'll have lots of friends who would like to go somewhere.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Thanks Errol, I'll certainly check into that. I don't want to encourage Greyhound by giving them one more penny of my money (if I don't have to).
