CDL:

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.

Schneider is a good company, also try Millis, swift, do a year and find a smaller company/ good luck. I will be going to CRST on the 26th for school.

The best company is one that fits you and your families needs. From what I have been reading and researching most "starter" companies are the same. Its the small differences you have to look for. For instance I am looking into Schneider and USA because of their dedicated routes

Dedicated Route:

A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."

Well it Will be just me and my Husband in a few months on the road. I just hear so many good and bad things about so many different companies and all recruiters make who they work for sound great!

Like others have said, whatever suits you and your families needs. Since your in Missouri I would take a look into Prime as well, they're based in Springfield. There is also Henderson trucking, they're based out of Salem IL, but the yard is in Collinsville just east of St. Louis.

Camille I just finished orientation with Averitt. I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about them and am very pleased with my decision. If after researching them on your own should you have any questions about the organization Id be happy to answer them via PM as best I can. I had many options for my first company and I feel certain I've made the right choice for me personally with Averitt. If you qualify, they WILL take care of you.

I have been driving for Schneider since I got my CDL. If you go with them you'll quickly learn about the small things that set them apart from most.

Attitude is key. If you have a great attitude and do your research you will find a great company that meets your needs. Good luck.
