Hi folks. Feeling like patting myself on the back. Just dropped a trailer at a customer in Allentown PA. Only choice was a blindside back into the hole. Set up as best I could and to my surprise got it first try without even having to pull up. Just posting this to say if I can do it so can you other new drivers. I have only been doing this since May. Good luck to everyone and stay safe!

Great, Mark! You're right to say backing comes along, that you'll eventually nail that sucker.

The problem is, your experience and confidence don't get there in time to take your school & CDL skills test!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Must enjoy wordplay too much... Hope I didn't mislead everyone with my "blindsided" title. But the words of my trainer ring true when he told me that fine tuning my backing would only come while I was out here actually doing it.
