Anchorman, any info on how much it costs?

It's $11. I used it a couple weeks ago at the Hagerstown location and it was worth every penny. I got in late and those were the only spots available so I went ahead and got one. The big surprise was that they even had somebody there to help spot drivers in. Granted, he wasn't a professional spotter but it was a nice touch that they were concerned about the drivers and the vehicles.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Robert B. Is right. $11 for a prime front row location next to building. Check the link for more details and pictures of the parking areas.

Hagerstown is my hometown... There's two pilots and a ac&t truck stop... I'd say check out the ac&t they have some really good food...there's also a Walmart exit 6a I think off 81 and same exit as the pilot is a mall and Kmart... Just a FYI for anyone stopping in hagerstown...

Good to know. I go through there quite a bit if I'm avoiding the tolls headed to NY and take 68 to 81.

I presume it would be a reimbursable expense much like tolls or scale tickets, but it piques by curiosity to know what companies will or won't reimburse for parking fees? With parking being such a scarce resource, I'm surprised that paid parking is not yet the norm. I have a feeling that if the Feds & States don't make moves to vastly improve the parking problems in the future this will become very common practice.

Tolls are part of the expense of getting freight from A to B. Most bigger companies will have at least E-Z Pass (comes with the Pre-Pass unit).

Where you stop for your rest breaks is up to you. On the side of an on-ramp, or if you go all the way and get a room at Hilton Express, your choice, and your wallet.

You could see if you could take the expenses off your income tax, like your food expenses.

I see where you're coming from Erol, but at a point I think I'll have to disagree with your analogy.

Feeding the driver is a personal expense to maintain the driver, therefore yes that is on the drivers dime.

However, paying for parking (especially when no reasonable alternative is available) is a cost of doing business.

I think we can all agree that it is a good business practice to minimize expenses, that objective must also be balanced with the good business practice of mitigating risk as well. If paying for parking will help to keep the rig, the freight and the driver out of harms way (ie, parking on a ramp) then it is a justifiable expense, just like a toll or scale ticket, part of getting the freight from A to B.

I say you both agree to disagree. Either way, companies do not reimburse you for parking fees. As Errol stated, you may be able to claim it as a work expense on your taxes.
