LOL. Dang I phone. Meant Line Haul.

Line Haul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

If i were to get a passport it would, at times, cost me money. Because few people at my company have them i would be required to go pick up or split canada loads an the expense of very long bounces.

That's interesting... The company makes drivers go across the border for less money than a straight run in the states?

Yea it's more that they don't like doing hazmat or border crossing runs at all. They like to focus on repeatable movement of raw materials between factories, or building materials to distributors or stores. The times that i do move hazmat classifiable material, it's always kept under 1k(of course) and is usually something like adhesive or something for building materials. As for the pay, since we're payed by percentage, the value of the run is generally all that matters. If i could potentially head to new york area for example, i can rely on seeing at least 3$ a mile to the truck in general, or .81 cents a mile to me. But heading just across the border doesn't pay any extra amount over the current average 1.94 or whatever it is. Me and my fm had a discussion about this and he's the one that key'd me in on not getting one.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
