Exactly Brett ! LOL Heard this story thru a friend who worked at this local Ford Dealer, in So Cal. This old bum rode a bike, with all sorts of stuff added on, like some homeless guy. He'd stop in the dealer and look around, as he rode past, all the time! Well none of the salesmen ever went out to greet him or see if they could help him..........They'd stand around on the porch and make fun of him actually, while he "Browsed"

1 day, per his usual, he stopped to browse. So my friend, was bored, tired of hearing smack talk by the others, and goes out to talk to this old man.

Turns out this old "bum" was loaded! he wanted this truck, with the add-ons another truck had, on his. So within the hour the deal was done, he'd come pick up his truck when it was ready in couple days...........He paid CASH! $30,000 , so much for being a bum !

I hope this is a VERY VERY OLD story, because nowdays, $30k wouldn't get you far for a truck, maybe an SUV.

But it is a good story.

Salespeople:

If they think they can get something from you, you're their best friend ever.

The moment they think they can't, you're worthless scum to be ignored.

I can't stand salespeople...

I think he said it was at a Ford dealership...so I'm thinking he got a simple pick up truck? lol

Yes, was in late 1990's just an F-150 with some goodies.....I worked for a Ford Dealer as a tech, those cars & trucks that sit on the lot for a year+ get discounted to move.....

Flip side of RV's story: I was managing an Amoco C-store in Detroit. An older man walked in, saying he took a bus to get this far, but he was looking for a particular car dealership.

I found out the dealership was just a couple miles north on Telegraph Rd., Detroit. I called the dealership, and asked to speak to any salesman who wanted to take a chance. One did answer the phone, came down to my station and picked the guy up in his car. The next day the salesman came in and handed me $25 "finder's fee" for the sale he made!

This isn't hearsay. A first person story - me.

RV I'm currently in and older style Freightliner Classic....... with a bunk.... it also has a fridge there is lots of storage and I'm 6'2" and can stand and move around quite comfortably.... Some sales people are really only there for the money vs there to help grow the business... it sucks but its part of it ...most of the truck guys probably have few and far between sales and its probably worse now as many "fleets" are in a holding pattern ..... As suggested I would check with a used guy or even an auction site...... Sue once the winter is over I'm moving to a newer Western Star and its one of the damned nicest trucks Ive ever driven to this point in my exceptionally young career.... Really looking forward to it as the power package is a big CAT as well ...

Decanuck, I personally don't think there's a finer ride than a star car with a cat under the hood. Smooth ride, great handling, and lots of giddy up and go. When I'd make a run with my ex back in the day I tried to make sure we were talking those. The petes were and are nice, don't get me wrong, but I love Western Star trucks. You could steer them with a pinky, and soooo smoth.
