C.S., don't add too much drama. I think they were just clueless, and maybe were both driving on one log. My guess.

Sounds like 2 solo guys who teamed without knowing each other, who don't really get the team driving on the qualcom. You didn't say how long they had been a team?

I know when I was in dispatch and management, we pushed the 5 on 5 off rule for teams. You'll never run out of hours and the truck keeps moving. Wheels turning = money made. Most have a problem with sleeping in that format, so I told them that sleeping arrangements were up to them, but the 5 on 5 off rule will keep you legal on paper. I never asked them or told them to break the rules, just cover their axles so to be legal. But if they got caught with the wrong driver in the seat it was on them. I never told them to drive on the others logs, nor cheat. Just drive 5 hours then switch. But I know what happens in the truck, stays on the truck.

The 5 on 5 off rule seems pretty straightforward and workable. Will have to keep it in mind.

But just wondering, how does the 5 on 5 off rule give you the 10 hours off? Is this still feasible with current rules?

This is no longer an option, for team drivers or otherwise. The split sleeper rule used to allow for this, along with (I think, as I never drove with this rule as it was way before my time) any other combination of two rest periods as long as they added up to ten hours or more. Looks like it was changed around October 2005, and is now much more restrictive.

Watching a youtube trucking couple, "Login Trucking." They split the day, one drives midnight to noon, the other noon to midnight. So they essentially run a 12 hour clock. Splitting the day like that, from my limited persepece, would allow for plenty of recap hours, and very few needed resets.

Ugh, and I still missed it even with the edit! ... Lovin Truckin.
