I wish I knew the answer about those particular carriers, but I do know there are quite a few of the larger fleet carriers that do require the follicle test. This is actually being talked about being implemented as a DOT requirement in the year 2017 for all carriers.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Which is a "better company" - depends on if you're in their hiring area, if the training, compensation, equipment, hometime and miles meet your needs.

Deciding which is better - depending on how they DRUG TEST - is not how what you really want to make your deciding factor.

Better to wait the extra couple of months until you can PASS ANY DRUG TEST - then have how a company drugs tests even factor into your decision process.

We see questions like this a lot. And not to judge people by their decisions (whether to partake or not), but as far as career choices go - I personally, wouldn't want to be limited in finding the BEST FIT POSSIBLE for my first employer - based on whether or not I can pass a drug screen.

If Glassdoor is any indicator, most of the bad companies urine test only and most of the good companies do a hair test. My classmates and I are big fans of Glassdoor. But it's a pretty harsh review site though. Just getting 3 out of 5 stars is pretty good.

How do you know this? I recently spoke to a recruiter out Memphis who emphatically declared they DO NOT hair follicle test. So was he lying, or do they only UA at Memphis orientation?

If you are worried about drug testing for illicit substances, your best bet is to abstain for 6 months or so before you get into truck driving. If you are taking prescription drugs as prescribed by your doctor he/she will have to sign off on them before you go for your DOT Physical. DO NOT LIE about this! All of this information goes into a FEDERAL database. If you fail a drug test early on, it will be almost impossible to find a driving job EVER.
