Swift is switching to autos. I think half the 15 models are auto. All the 16 and 17 are autos. There are a few 13 trucks left and a lot of 14 trucks. So I would say right now it's about 50/50 swift only keeps trucks for about 4 years Or about 450000 miles.

Well what about the trucks? Do they have apu and mini fridges ?stuff to make life eaiser.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

No and nope. As far as the easy life, well, compared to what? I'm with Swift and just finished eating too big a Subway salad that I paid for with rewards points earned from fuel that Swift bought. Sounds pretty easy to me. If I had a reefer , I'd eat waaay too much.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

Phillip asks:

(Remember, the concept is there, but the dollar values I used mean nothing! - I guessed for them! Personally, I went the Veteran route where you get a "scholarship" that pays the tuition 100% after your first year, and there are no paycheck deductions in the meantime.)

Would that be ANY VETERAN that has a DD-214 - or just "recent discharges"?

I got out in 1975. My DD-214 photocopy was all I needed.

I'll be heading to Memphis Tenn

Where will you go for school?

Phillip, I'm at the Memphis terminal most weekends on Friday or Saturday. PM me if you want to meet up.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
