Heard two drivers on the cb the other week arguing about "steering wheel holders". One guy easily won when he informed the other how he bet that he had ten years experience his first day on the job. I literally LOLed in my truck.

I can only see a 20 year spread here (and at the midsection lol) the old style truckstops seem faded, it's not about parking for the weekend, grilling out, swapping stories and fending off the dope dealers and prostitutes, party till you were broke and had to go back to work etc. The renegade lifestyle has been superseded with something different, no more drivers lounges, less talk on the c.b. and more with people not in the industry (web, txt blue tooth) fewer real restaurants, more fast food. A newer lifestyle that doesn't thumb it's nose at the old, it's not disrespectful, the new simply isn't concerned about it, the new is wired for sound and finds their own world more important than not just the old, but the one surrounding them now (just take time out to watch the headsetters :) they are on a life mission that doesn't include you. They walk a bit differently, almost a strut, and they know beyond any doubt, that their existence (and their current phone call lol) is the focal point around which THE world turns. While I heard as well the feeling that the new generation was this or that 20 years ago just as today, I think what I see makes the older generation more unhappy than ever, this new generation has decided they don't need them...... just ask Google is its anthem. And instead of round table truck stop discussions, they have chat rooms with facebookers and Skype with strangers half way around the world, people that have nothing to do with this industry. Their personal world didnt get smaller like it did for others long ago, they just plugged in and brought it with them. For good or ill, it divides attention, causes accidents etc, but the older folks use it too so it has enhanced their job experience at the same time. And sure the flipflopper seems to be on an upswing, just as other stereo types dwindle, but obesity remains an issue while I can now choose fresh fruit at every stop I make :)) (couldn't even find "fresh" fruit on a buffet a few years ago rofl) just a few observations that might, or might not have merit :D

DWI:

Driving While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

The new generation of truckers is funny. They were flip flops & basketball short. Not professional at most of them are out of shape. The new generation of Truckers take no probe in being a professional driver or themselves.

I wear comfortable clothes, including sweat pants, T-shirts, and sometimes "basketball shorts." Then again, I don't mingle with customers or the public since I'm a linehaul driver. I spend 10+ hours in my truck, so yeah, I'm gonna be comfortable. Granted, if I had to interact with customers, I'd dress appropriately.

Linehaul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

Crap. I'm fat and not "in shape." I guess I can't be professional. I guess I should give up my dream of driving. Better yet, when I reach the million mile mark, all the fat haters can line up and... shake my hand.

We should take the original poster at his word and just assume that he wears a three piece pin striped suit and fedora at all times.

Not saying you need a three piece suite on.. But look neat & clean take a shower every night cause done smell some driver that made me throw up brush your teeth one customer gave a driver a packet of gum cause his breath was stink... Start wearing clean clothes... Just take pribe in your job & stop leaving like a beast that goes for the new & the old....Get in shape excrise seen some drivers that can barely walk & talking about they suger or blood pressure high it's crazy how drivers take there health for granted but it starts with repecting yourself & loving yourself and living for more than driving a truck cause the company can put another drive in the seat & put safety first your health

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

It's on here somewhere, lady year maybe? (Anchorman!)

A news report about a trucker who was busted for transporting illegal drugs. The clue that got the cops interested in him was that he was dressed too nicely for a trucker.
