dancing-dog.gif Congrats Daniel B.!!!!! I am looking at Central myself, I have applied and will be going hopefully next month! Any information that you can pass along to me about the school and the company would be greatly appreciated. I have completed most of the High Road and currently have my permit, so going to Salt Lake City is my next step. Thanks for the post and congrats again!

Kathy, Before you go to school take a long and deep breathe because the schooling is tough! It's one of the fast paced schools. I personally think its the top. It's great that you got your permit! When I went to school the first four days were 10-12 hour days in a classroom studying for that permit test. Those four days everyone is on edge, tensions were high and people were frustrated if they were struggles. I however was on cruise control. Most everything was review for me and I took those four days calmly.

Then everyone went to the dmv for their tests. Whoever didn't pass took it again and if they didn't pass they got sent home. They give you the EXACT word for word answers. After that was yard time. You first would learn how to turn on the truck and the super basic controls. You would drive in idle speed going forward and backwards. You will slowly progress to Alley Dock and Parallel parking when the instructors see you're ready for it. Central has employees certified with the dmv to give the license testing, so the person testing you won't be a guy at the dmv - it'll be a central employee. He will want you to pass! They will be nice about it but don't get too comfortable. If you hit a curb its a fail, being out of gear (coasting) for too long is also a fail. Pay attention to signs because they will ask "what did that last sign say?".

And then you have your license! Now you get a random trainer and you are forced to live with him problem free for an entire 4-5 weeks. This part will either make or break you. When I was in training I probably lost 10 years off my life due to my trainers bull****. You can request a new one no problem if worst comes to worst. After the trainer you get your own truck. I got a 2012 Freightliner cascadia so the equipment is great!

Remember, it won't be a cake walk. It's a very tough experience. Come in being as prepared as possible. It's a good company and good job. Don't ever let the professional attitude slide!! Be the professional, set the example.

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

HOS:

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I really need to start a topic about married couples living in a truck. Brett, do you want a thread on this issue ???

Certainly! I'm certain you'd have enough material to write an article about it which I'd be thrilled to post in our blog section also if you'd like.
