I knew it would hurt when the Mrs. left me here in Joplin, but I had no idea. It took all I had not to go grab my bag and leave with her. I guess it will get better, but it is really testing me right now.

That's the separation many truckers have to live with. There are many posts here on TT taking about that. It'll be a while till your school and driving practice gets done.

Make phone calls daily, FaceTime or Skype. You'll have something to look forward to.

Sam I know this may sound cold, but your focus and attention needs to be on "you" through this process. I went through the same exact thing, many of us have. Hopefully your wife is supportive and understanding.

Good luck!

I second this! I honestly am not sure how the truckers of the golden days got through it with their families without being able to facetime or skype. It makes a world of difference to be able to see someones face, even if through a glass screen. Try it out if you can.

Pay phones and hand written letters. Most of the true old timers went from either HS graduation or honorable discharge immediately into a truck. They were well engrained with the trucker lifestyle and mentality long before meeting their better half.

There is a new member that likely drove in the 70s perhaps he will add his two cents on this.

Thanks everyone. G-Town, I agree, I do need to focus on me. I have a challenging month ahead of me. Once I get started, I can focus, and things will be better. I have a great wife, and this was just a first painful step to get us where we need to be.

Sam, when I first started doing this I had been married thirty years, and had already been working lengthy periods of time away from my wife. Yet it still would hit me sometimes, like a wave or surge of emotion. It is difficult, we all understand. You hang in there, and get where you need to be. Keep the end game in focus, and soon enough she will be out there with you. Make sure you guys are on the same page with the same goals.
