Hi Everyone, Questions about SOLO UPGRADE. If all of you recent "upgraders"( You know who you are). LOL,
would be kind enough to clue me in as far as what I can expect, I would really appreciate it. (A) How long was the process? (B) What was the Driving/Skills portion? (C) What is the 57 question test. Anything in particular I should read up/focus on? (D) Where did you test out? (E) What year/make/transmission type truck were you issued?
I would appreciate any and all information. I will hit 200 hrs. on Monday or Tuesday.
Thanks, John the Tractor Man
A. Should be a real quick process. For me it was up until the final part of being released from student status. So you will take written, afterwards if you pass you will take driving test, here in Albuquerque you take it in the truck they are planning to give you, finally if you pass then boom here are the keys. Make sure your permits are up to date set PTA, and have at it. B. Driving test is easy. Don't know how it will be for you but here in Albuquerque it was just a couple of right turns and merging onto the interstate. C. Not much advice here. Just to let you know it's so easy that I passed it even though I didn't read the training manual. As.long as you know basic trip planning and a couple macros you should be fine. They practically give you all the answers on the test. D. Albuquerque, if I didn't mention it enough already haha. E. 2016 freightliner cascadia automatic. If you trained on auto, you will get auto. If trained in manual you may get a manual truck. It just depends. If you are upgrading in Phoenix you may end up with a 2017 cascadia.
Congrats on hitting 200. Hope your training went well and maybe I'll see you out here some day. The world sure gets smaller when you become a trucker.
Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
I did mine in Troutdale. The paper test was basic stuff. Some of it, like macros, I had never seen before. That's due to my trainer. I passed anyway. For the driving portion I was handed to an experienced mentor. He had just stopped in to complain about the low quality students he had been seeing recently. I drove his truck about 5 miles. Ground some gears, floated some gears, missed some gears. By the time we got back to the terminal everyone had left for the weekend so I went home. On Monday I called, they said to come in Tuesday. After some snafus I was introduced to my FM and DM. My truck was a 2014 t680 with 250k miles and a 10 speed. She was beat up but all mine. And a KW!!! That night I took her home and loaded up my stuff. Next day is when I really started learning.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Good job Mr Tractor!
Devan touched all the bases, but this is how I describe the 57 question multiple choice test:
You will take the test, and you will pass it.
Now think about that.
Thanks Guys!
Devan....There's a TRAINING MANUAL??????😈😈😎
Devan jams the brakes:

Yup. You got it in orientation. White cover, 8-1/2 x 11, about 1/4" thick. There are assignments in the book you should do while training. Like Devan said, it's not really necessary.
Good luck Tractor.
Thanks Errol.
My tongue was implanted firmly in my cheek with that question for Devan
