Krungen, a suggestion for your hospital bills: locate the social services office at the hospital. Go there. (100 x better than a phone call.) Ask if you can apply for charity.

I wiped out on my motorcycle (surely not 1/1000th of your pain and tragedy), I was unemployed at the time, and the hospital wrote it off. Still had Dr bills, but they took an $8000 load off me.

Yes, it all depends on what kind of hospital and many other factors. But remember, the worst that could happen is they'll say "No".

Another thing, once you get with a company see if they have any hardship programs. For example, I know Werner has a program to help their driver with hardships like the hospital bills you have. I'm not sure exactly how it works as I haven't used it, bit I know it's there. Unfortunately, they won't pay your way through school like some of the other companies do. They do tuition reimbursement instead, do I don't think they meet the criteria for companies you are looking for. But if they have a program like that, I am sure others do as well.

Krungen, I too have no words that could comfort you in your grief. All, I could do was say a prayer for you. As far as schools that you don't have to lay out large sums of money, look here. Paid CDL Training Programs Are you and your fiance still ok with you being OTR and away from home for weeks at a time. I know Roehl has great home time. I believe Knight also has great home time. I know Old School is happy there. Also, I know someone who now drives local who used to drive for Knight and he loved them too. As with any company, once you prove yourself, they are more willing to work with you. I hope this helps. Good luck.

CDL:

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OTR:

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
