Thanks guys. Richard I'm waiting on the recruiter to call me back with the final details. She has been off and will be back tomorrow. She told me everything looked good for November as long as no suprises popped up in my background. I know that isn't going to be a problem just a formality. She didn't give me a date but I'm thinking probably around the first week so they wind up the class before Thanksgiving. I'm ready to go as soon as she gives me the word.

Hey congrats PJ! And I love hearing that low to mid 90's were a little disappointing to you. Very few people truly strive for excellence when facing a challenge and I'm glad to hear you're on of em. Keep setting your standards high and keep working hard. You're going to do great with that approach!

Things just keep getting better. Just got off the phone with Kim at Roehl. She is setting me up for a DOT physical through Comp Care. They should be calling shortly with my apt date/time. She said they have to have that completed before they can set my class date. She is expecting the middle of November to start. That is good news and bad news. My girlfriend will probably not appreciate me being gone over thanksgiving, but just one of those things. I also now have in hand a conditional offer from Roehl stating I do my part and pass and I have a job!!!!! Wow such a great feelingdancing-banana.gif

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Congratulations!!!

Sorry to break it to you, but from now on you're going to miss most holidays. Your girl is going to have to get used to it. It took my wife some time to adjust. So just make sure that you're ready for that and so is she.

Again, Congratulations!!

Daniel Yes I know, It's her that isn't used to it. I've lived that way my whole life. We talked about it this evening and she says she's good with it.

Damn I hit the submit button before I was ready. Sorry. My girl has always had a career with holidays off and has never experienced first hand the other side, so to speak. My former life was in public service and it's just a way of life you celebrate the holiday when you can. Thanks to everyone here for your encouragement. I also talked to my big sis. She's had a cdl for years. She's always been the driver in the family. We always went different career paths and now they are meshing. I talked to her a lot about how I feel and where I want to go, and in the end she said she wasn't a bit surprised. That caught me off guard, I have to admit. She knows me very well, being the older sibling, and thinks I will do just fine. You all have helped me with this more than you will ever know. Thanks again!!!!!! I'll be sure to keep regular updates in the other forum once I actually get started. I'm very excited to even be at this part of the journey.....

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Well guys had my DOT physical this afternoon. It was different than I expected from reading some of the posts here about other ones. They only asked questions about me not other family members. Then they did the workups, BP, height, weight and so on. Urine test and they were very quick to tell me it was for medical stuff not drugs. I told them to go for it whichever way they wanted, they had the sample so do it up. Don't know if they were looking for a reaction or not. Then the guy started filling out my card before I ever saw a doc. Made me wonder. Guess he had a good idea looking at the paperwork and workups I would most likely pass. They put me in a room and I was in there so long I actually feel asleep. Doc woke me up and asked if I was ready to continue. I said sure. What other obvious choice was there...He went over the paperwork and at times was talking very very soft, Guess this was his whisper test I've heard others talk about. Then he had me lay on my back and poked around, sat up and he poked around. Then he said squeeze my fingers. Okay. I did and he replied, Not so hard. Guess I passed that one. Then the knees with him holding and arms same drill. All in all pretty uneventfull. He asked me if I had any questions for him. Nope not really, other than did I pass or not. He looked me dead square in the eye and said "pass, your one of those disgustingly healthy people that are bad for my business". Then said of course you passed. Got my card and out the door. Now just wait for Roehl to call me with a class start date. Gives me a few weeks to get everything in order around the house, and clean out my pickup before heading to school. I don't drive it much, so it gets neglected at times....
