This stinks. I was filling out my log for today and totaling my hours from yesterday. I hate you 70 hr rule. Today I only have 3 hrs and 45 mins left. I need to work 4 hrs to get paid while in training. Today is shot. I am going to work for free today. This majorly sucks.

Welcome to Time Management 101...

You should have seen that coming four or five days ago. smile.gif

Of course I'm teasing you Patrick!

It's a reality you'll learn to deal with, but it will bite you in the butt several more times before you get it mastered. I've been following your posts and love your enthusiasm. Hang in there - you seem like you're gonna enjoy this.

I was trying to be nice to my trainer. He has to run out West this week. He wouldn't have time for a reset. I did the vast majority of everything to save his 70. I tried to save me 4 hrs. I just goofed on my calculations of the top of my head. I guess it is a lesson learned. I do get 10.5 hrs back at midnight tonight on a recap. But it does nothing for me today.

Keep in mind you can WORK after your 70, you just can't DRIVE. Meaning, after 3:45 minutes is it possible to spend some on duty time? Maybe fuel and post-trip to bring you up to 4 hours to get paid?

Just a thought.

Good point. I wasn't thinking about that. I was just annoyed that I didn't leave enough time without working the log a bit.

Wow. Why are you annoyed Patrick?

My perspective on this is perhaps a little different than yours at this point. This is a learning process for you and anyone else at this phase of their career,...and you clearly learned something from it. Best of all, you didn't break anything in the process.

Don't be so da** hard on yourself. Clock management is part art, part science, and part luck. I think you get the science part, the art takes time to develop. And luck,...toss up a coin. One of my favorite sayings is; "some days you are the bat and some days you are the ball".

If this were to happen to you say, a year from now? Then I could understand your annoyance. You are doing great, stay the course.

How about a 15 minute post trip? This is quite easy to fix but what im most curious about is: Arent you on e-logs?

Sue I think he is running paper while he is in training.

We run both during training. The paper log has a big ol' sticker on it that states "For Training Purposes Only". Luckily when I logged into the Qualcomm this morning for my road test, my paper log was different than my official log. Somehow over the course of a week it was a 1hr difference. I actually had 4hrs and 43 mins of time left on my 70. Woohoo. The time gods smiled on me this morning.

As far as being hard on myself, it is what pushes me to succeed. I expect excellence in all I do, anything shy of that and I am not getting it done.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Not suggesting anything less than strive for excellence. Just realize that you are going to make a lot of mistakes, it's expected, part of the learning process in this. If you beat yourself up over every one you could quickly burn out. Balance...

I meant what I said, "you seem to be doing just fine".
