Ok so I stayed at swift for 6+ months........ recently I found out the .38cpm I was told of while in training wasn't exactly what they had in mind, I was actually on a sliding pay scale, long story short JB Hunt contacted me and said no sliding pay scale, better home time and monthly performance bonus, Please NOTE I did not leave Swift on bad terms...I explained what was going on and left on good terms with a offer to rehire. I am not in any way bashing Swift, they are just not the right fit for me or my situation. I know newbies are supposed to put in a year before switching companies, but I have a family to support and will do whatever it takes to make sure that they have a roof over their heads, I was getting miles at swift but due to the sliding pay scale the pay just wasn't there, I have talked to JB hunt drivers and well I am going to give them a shot. Please I am open to all advise, thanks for listening.

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

It sounds like you did it the right way. Offer to re hire is a good thing. Keep us posted on miles/pay as compared to Swift. I for one would be very interested. My first 4 months have been all over the board miles wise. I intend to stay with Swift for a minimum of 1 year. Would really like to stay for 10, get my 1,000,000 miles and retire!

Tractor,...maybe, just maybe it's time you thought about one of the Dedicated accounts.

I think about it quite often G. Would really like a 5 days out, 34 at home. Haven't approached my DL yet. I think one problem I may have is a lack of DC's in my hometown of Tucson, AZ. There are 2 in a City of close to 1,000,000 people in the Greater Metro area!!! Target and Homegoods. The City and County Governments are inhabited by Anti Business, Not in my back yard left wing lunatics. Would really like to be able to get home weekly, as my Mom's health is failing pretty rapidly. My Sister and I will probably have to find her an Assisted Living Facility by Jan or Feb. The next closest City with several big DC's is Casa Grande, AZ, 60 miles north. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thoughts and prayers Bro. My Mom is 87 so I completely understand. I will think about this...and let you know. My former DM and close friend is at the Reno WM DC. I will reach out to him...he knows a lot of people in the South West.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Will do. I'll get it from Errol. We email from time to time. He keeps me in-line! So yes, not a problem.

Tractor, I'm in a similar situation. For me also it's better right now to be home every day.

If you live near a Swift terminal , ask about shuttle driving. Always back every day, I do 4 days driving, 2 days off.

Sent your phone # to G-T.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
