Just to start this off i want to make sure everyone knows this isnt a question about leasing or o/o. This is purely a question out of curiosity.

Now that that is covered. You know how freightliner and volvo are known to be full of advanced tech while pete and ken are much more style and power?

How do they compare to car company brands.

Ex. About my limited viewings. Pete and ken and mack are like a dodge ford and chevy because of power, style, and american image.

Freightliner is like mercedes and audi for tech and comfort...

Volvo is like volvo because volvo. Lol

Please please give reasons why you say what you say about the brands.

I have only driven a Freightliner. They appear to be the Biggest player in Class 8 Trucks. On a side note, the one I drive was manufactured in Mexico. Not sure what percentage of FL Trucks come out of Mexico.

In my opinion Freightliner = Dodge Reason: There everywhere

Western Star = Chrysler Reason: WS owned by same people who own Freightliner. WS just a nicer more customizable version of Freightliner.

Peterbuilt = Cadillac Reason: Elegant, Classic, Overpriced.

Mack = Ford Reason: Old American classic

Kenworth = Jeep (too bad Jeep is owned by Dodge now.) Reason: People who are loyal to that brand will stick with it to the bitter end

Volvo = Volvo Reason: Self explanatory

GMC = Chevy (I know they don't make trucks anymore) Reason: see Volvo, LoL

Thanks lol i would have never guessed freightliner would be compared to dodge lol. And honestly i thought western star was a knockoff varient of freightliner. Never knew they were actually good quality. Thanks for that.

Freightliner is owned by Daimler, a German Company, that owns Chrysler. Dodge/Chrysler is no longer an "American" Company. I believe the "Ram" Company, formerly Dodge Trucks may be a seperate entity now. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong........ Rick??? LOL!

Haha!

Reaper, Western Star is generally considered "top shelf." You don't see many of them because they're expensive. Really though I'm hoping this little exercise is just for fun. You simply can't compare these trucks like you're trying to do.

It's crazy to try and say that Peterbilt trucks are more powerful than Freightliners or to make comparisons like that. The customer specifies how they want the truck set up. There is no such thing as a Peterbilt engine or transmission, just as there are no Freightliner engines or transmissions. I could spec my Peterbilt with a 475 horse Cummings engine, but your Freightliner with a 625 horse Caterpillar engine would be more powerful.

As a company driver you will have a generic truck that runs efficiently and comparably to all the other major carriers, regardless of brand. Even if you had an eighteen speed transmission behind a 650 horse power plant you'd still be governed to 62 mph defeating all the purpose of that set up.

Ultimately we're all neutered as company drivers, and there's statistically sound facts behind that reasoning to keep us safe and efficient while moving the nation's goods.

Don't forget to mention that Peterbilt and Kenworth are both owned by Paccar.

Ram is just a brand of Chrysler product. Instead of being a model name Ram is now the brand. Just like Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth. Btw, Chrysler is part of Daimler. They have been joined with Fiat for several years now. If I remember right the Fiat merger happened about the same time as the Jeep acquisition.

Chrysler is NOT part of Daimler.

I can't keep up with all of these mergers and buy outs. Suffice it to say, It all ultimately results in lower wages and fewer jobs for Americans. I remember in the 70's, it was said that Fiat stood for " Fix It Again Tony", probably still does!
