Another reason, while looking for a union trucking job might not be the best idea.

N.Y. retirees struggle to survive after pension fund bottoms out

It would really suck to pay into a pension fund all those years, and end up on welfare.

Unfortunately, many Unions mismanage their pension funds (mismanage may be putting it lightly). The Federal Government has bailed out many a Union pension fund over the years. Hell, the Obama Administration all but GAVE General Motors to the Unions in the Bailout 7 or 8 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Feds stepping in on this situation.

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Not only do you have the issue of mis management, their numbers of members are down so they don't have that revenue coming in. You can bet that the union president and reps are getting paid though.
