I just figured larger company without APUs. I understand with trucks that APU/EPUs. Just odd to me, since during the day, trucks turn out to be a sweat box on wheels.

I kinda take it for granted that my company provides Opti-Idle, Wabasto bunk heaters, and EPUs (on some trucks). Then again Wolding is the only large carrier that all of their trucks have Pre-Oilers. I have seen others with auto lube systems.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

Yeah they do get quite hot, and i will just idle to keep cool. I know its not what they prefer you to do, but a person has to sleep and im sure most people out there cant sleep in a sweat box at night, lol.

As Fatsquatch pointed out, not all FL come with Opti-Idle. At Prime, they don't want the drivers to idle their trucks. If your under bunk heater or APU isn't working, they want you to get through a terminal so they can get them repaired.

Ernie

Unless your APU is a Rigmaster, then they want you to STAY at a terminal until they can fix it long enough for you to leave. I'm not speaking from experience on that, not at all. I love my RigCrapster.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I also had to spend the night in Kearny, not the nicest place. But I was glad I had a place to park, only had 20 min left!
