That's the best strategy. You can skip ahead of the people who don't bother.
Not necessarily true. At Prime they had us all get MIssouri driver's license and test for the commercial learner's permit. Anyone who had a permit already still had to go through the process, so paying for the home state was just wasted money. Because state tests are supposed to be slightly different, not all states transferred scores. I'm not sure if it was a Missouri thing since we did the road test there. Maybe the state required the Missouri driver's license. Plus cost in each state could be different. In NJ it was much higher than MO.
best to call and ask the company.
It will vary from company to company because it actually varies from state to state. Each state has different laws. In some cases you'll be ahead of the game if you already have your permit, in others you'll just have to take the test over again.
Regardless of where you're going to get your CDL training, make sure you prepare for the CDL permit exam with our High Road CDL Training Program before you leave for schooling. You'll be well prepared and you'll fly through the permit and endorsement exams.
The High Road has the CDL manual built right in. It's broken down into small chunks with review questions at the end of each section and it keeps track of your scores throughout the program. It's highly effective.

Should I get my CDL permit before applying to a company with CDL training or should I hold off and do everything through the company? I'm in Wisconsin if that helps with my question. Thanks
