8lbs /gal is a way over estimation. #2 Diesel fuel is far more closer to 7.2 lbs/gal. 7 would be a far safer number to use.. Jet fuel for example comes in between 6.4 and 6.8 lbs/gal (depending on the grade and additives). Miltary JP-8 is 6.7 lbs/gal.

6.943 lbs per gallon. 11% more in weight than one gallon of ethanol-free gasoline. I looked it up on Google because I thought it was nearly 10 lbs per gallon.thank-you.gif

How about this: multiplying by 8 is much easier in your head than multiplying by 7.

Just double the number three times. Quick: how much does 76 gallons of fuel weigh? No calculator! That extra bit (difference between x7 and x8) could be just making an error on the safe side.

Answer is 532 lbs. just under 1/4 of the weight a Blackhawk carries in fuel. A Blackhawk carries roughly 2,400 lbs of fuel. Than again jp-8 weight 6.7 lbs /gal.

Calculating fuel burn, remaining fuel, time to out of fuel was a routine task I did while on flight status.

Right. For airplanes and helicopters accuracy is important. You can't just pull over on a cloud. Carry a calculator and nail the answer if you want.

The quickie answer here is more that the true one by 75 pounds. Unless you're bumping 34,000 on an axle or the maximum 80,000, 75 don't amount to much.
