My suggestion is that if you can read the chart without them, don't wear them for your DOT physical. If you do, some states will make you come back and retake the vision test wearing glasses and then put the restriction on your license as well. If you don't need the restriction, why get it...
Sorry for all the random questions lately, but I keep thinking of things! I've done a search and been looking around and can't find the answer. I wear glasses most of the time due to them helping to prevent eye fatigue, but the thing is I am not required to wear them on my Driver's License since I passed their eye exam without them. Is this going to cause issues? Should I take the DOT Physical and driving test without them? I can see without them, but they prevent eye strain, headaches, and for focusing.
Thanks!
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).
It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.
Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.
I got "caught" like Dave described. When that happened, I'd worn prescription glasses for desk work but not for driving, day or night. But it wasn't a restriction on my driver license.
When I got an updated DOT physical, I accidentally took the eye exam with glasses on, and that was noted on my physical card. I needed to update my address on my license (CDL, but no glasses req'd) At the DMV I had to show them a current Medical card. Oops! Vision with glasses!
The DMV clerk offered me a choice: get the specs added to my license, or run and get another physical, glasses free. Well, I bit the inevitable bullet, now I need to wear glasses when I drive.

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
Thanks for the advice! I'll prolly attempt the DOT without my glasses, I should be fine. One eye is only .25 off and other like .75 off.

Drink lots of homemade juiced carrots before the exam, its good for your eyes.
Definitely attempt it without the glasses. I had a trainee who had a similar situation.. no restrictions but wore them for the DOT physical. Had to take her home to make her CDL match her company provided DOT physical. She had to go to the DMV and add the eyeglass prescription restriction to her CDL before she could resume training. Luckily it only took a couple hours and she was able to come right back on the truck that same afternoon..

Thanks for the info! I'm planning to call and make an appointment tomorrow for beginning of next week to do the DOT physical.
