Good Afternoon. I was just informed that as of 10/1/18 the new cost is $6000.00 instead of the $3900.00. Everything I read still says 3900. But the paperwork from the recruiter says 6000. How much does Prime cost as of today.

Review the paperwork to see what the weekly deduction is for covering the school. Unless something has changed the weekly deduction for 52 weeks should equal a discount of 50%.

I just spoke to Prime recruiting. It is $5000...you pay only $155 upfront. This is used for processing and your permit fee. you make NO payments at all unless you leave before your one year is met.

They provide transporatation, hotel, and food for.orientation. After that, while you have your permit, they advance $200 per week for food which you pay back at $25 per week once you get the CDL. At that point you get paid $700 gross per week. There is a $125 TWIC card fee that you pay in two payments after you get the CDL. Also, you may be required to take a sleep study which would also be a weekly deduction.

I.hope.this helps

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

We got an internal announcement earlier this week that the Swift Academy tuition was going to double to $6 grand. I'm not sure of the start date nor of any of the payment details.

This is the first increase in like 15 years.

This week we in Memphis stopped taking new students. Closed for a few weeks to revamp the course. Instead of class groups practicing on the backing range with instructors, each instructor will work with 4 students from straight line backing through road experience and get them ready for the third party CDL test.

If there's Trucking Truth member interest, I'll post a training diary of the new school format when it is rolled out.

Sounds great! I'd be interested to see what the new program looks like.
