I'm studying fir cdl permit using tools on here. I noticed its for Illinois. Im in Texas are they all the same or does someone here know of a good app or website for studying for Texas CDL permits

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Jerry, I used the High Road CDL Training Program exclusively and passed the Texas exams, but Texas does often throw in some questions from section 14 of their manual. This section is unique to Texas.

The High Road is so effective that I always recommend using it. In addition to that you can always run through section 14 of the Texas manual.

Don't get hung up on the fact that the High Road is based on Illinois. All state manuals are based on Federal guidelines, and you will learn everything you need by utilizing the High Road CDL Training Program.

Jerry, the core of the test manuals for each state are almost word-for-word the same. The first section will be written by each state, and the last sections can be different. But in between the content will be exactly the same.

Also, after you get your state permit, if you go from Texas to a school in Missouri, for example, it's possible to complete the driving portion in Missouri to qualify for you're Texas CDL. This just makes it easier for trucking schools to get stuff done.
