I would assume you would need to also bring the trailer as you're removing the auto restriction on a class a combination vehicle. I believe you only need to do the driving portion but im not sure and would be interested to know if thats indeed the case or if they require pretrip and skills.
A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.

Hey guys, long time reader, got a lot of help from this website and am now a local driver out of Chicago. I need the automatic restriction removed and was wondering if I needed to bring a tractor trailer or just bobtail up. Sec. Of States aren't very helpful and due to retest next week so any help would be great thanks.
Bobtail:
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
